Chewlie
Chewlie (she/none) is a Swiss producer, DJ, visual artist and graphic designer whose work sculpts tense, sharply defined atmospheres with eerie amounts of space and dreadful amounts of bass. Rooted in Bern’s underground scene, she has shaped the local sound since her debut album Density (2021) and is a core member of CRTTR, a label and collective injecting vital energy into the city’s subcultural bloodstream.
Her music moves in the shadows between Leftfield Bass, Breakbeat, Deconstructed Club and Ambient—marked by understated moodiness, a UK soundsystem attitude, and a subtle but striking approach to sound design. Think heads-down immersion heaters with nervy, dislocated rhythms and meditative pauses, where genre is secondary to texture and feel.
Alongside her sonic explorations, Chewlie creates drawings, posters and album covers, maintaining a vivid dialogue between image and sound. Trained in Fine Arts at HKB Bern and in graphic design at Fachklasse Luzern, she fuses disciplines with a natural misfit’s flair—drawing equally from IDM, Jazz, Classical music, and the passing drone of traffic. Whether through sound or image, her work seeks out the asymmetric and the unexpected—moments that disorient, surprise, and quietly demand attention. In the many-sided bassweight landscape, Chewlie’s voice strikes out with poise, purpose, and a touch of otherworldly grace.
